    Serge Cosnier is Research Director exceptional class at CNRS and heads of the Department of Molecular Chemistry UMR CNRS 5250 at the Joseph Fourier University of Grenoble (France) where he began his research career in 1983. He received his doctoral degree in Chemistry from the Paul Sabatier University of Toulouse (1982) and habilitated at the Joseph Fourier University (1988). Previously, he was an Alexander von Humbold postdoctoral fellow at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany.

    From 2001 to 2014, he was the President of the French Group of Bioelectrochemistry and was President of the Rhône-Alpes section of the Chemical Society of France (2007-2013). He was also member of the Administration Council of the Chemical Society of France (2012-2013) and Vice-President of the Evaluation Committee of the Nanotechnologies and Nanosystems Program of the National Research Agency (ANR). He has worked extensively in the dissemination and strengthening of Bioelectrochemistry in France. To this end, he was heavily invested nationally in the direction of two CNRS GDR networks "Microbiosensors" (2003-2010) and "Enzymatic and Microbial Biofuel cells" (2012-2015). At the international level, he was the coordinator of a France-China CNRS network (GDRI, 20 laboratories) on "New approaches for water control and sustainable energy by electrochemical biosensors and biofuel cells” (2009-2012) and a CNRS France-Israel program (PICS) "Inhibitors of communication between bacteria" (2014-2016). He is also me mber of several editorial boards: Electroanalysis, Talanta, Current Analytical Chemistry and The Open Analytical Chemistry Journal.
    Dr Cosnier’s activity is focused on molecular electrochemistry, bioelectrochemistry, biosensors, conducting polymers, modified electrodes and bioconversion. His main research interests deal with the immobilization of macromolecular biomolecules and transduction of their molecular recognition properties or catalytic activity for the design of biosensors, bioreactors and biofuel cells. He has made important contributions in the area of biomimetic sensors, enzymatic biofuel cells, electrochemical biosensors, immunosensors, aptasensors and DNA sensors. He has developed innovative 3D nanostructured electrode materials based on functionalized carbon nanotubes intercalated with nano-objects like graphene, magnetic nanoparticles, gold nanoparticles or nanodiamonds and is an international leader in the field of electrogenerated polymers applied to bioelectrochemistry. Since 1990, his main activity is focused on modified electrodes and bioelectrochemistry. His research interests are in electrochemical biosensors, im munosensors and protein sensors, electrogenerated polymers and biofuel cells.
    Dr. Cosnier has authored over 310 peer reviewed publications (h-index 53) and has received two National CMC2 Prize in the sensor field. In 2009 Serge Cosnier received the Katsumi Niki Prize for Bioelectrochemistry from the International Society of Electrochemistry where he was appointed as fellow in 2010 and was elected at the Academia Europaea (European Academy of Humanities, Letters and Sciences) in 2013. More recently, Serge Cosnier was nominated as a Finalist for the European Inventor Award 2014 in the category Research by the European Patent Office. In 2015, he was awarded Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Cluj-Napoca (Romania), received the Grand Prix Joseph-Achille Le Bel :  Prize awarded by the Chemical Society of France and was nominated Knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honor (France).

    From 2001 to 2014, he was the President of the French Group of Bioelectrochemistry and was President of the Rhône-Alpes section of the Chemical Society of France (2007-2013).
